'Streets of Philadelphia'는 1993년 12월 22일에 개봉한 톰 행크스, 덴젤 워싱턴, 안토니오 반데라스가 출연한 영화 '필라델피아 (Philadelphia)'의 주제곡으로 쓰인 곡이다.
영화 '필라델피아 (Philadelphia)'의 OST 앨범은 1994년 1월 1일에 발매가 되었고, 싱글로는 1994년 2월 2일에 발매가 되었다.
영화 '필라델피아 (Philadelphia)'는 에이즈와 동성애 문제를 다뤘던 법정 영화로, 제66회 아카데미 시상식 남우주연상과 각본상을 수상하였고, 주제곡인 브루스 스프링스틴 (Bruce Springsteen)이 부른 'Streets of Philadelphia'도 아카데미에서 주제가상을 수상하였다.
'Streets of Philadelphia'도 싱글로 발매되어 미국 빌보드 핫 100에서는 9위에 올랐고, 유럽에서 크게 히트하며 독일, 프랑스, 오스트리아, 이탈리아, 노르웨이와 캐나다에서는 차트 1위를 영국에서는 2위를 차지하였다. 또한 그래미 어워드에서 올해의 노래 , 최우수 록 노래 , 최우수 록 보컬상등을 수상하였다.
